The Friends organisation exists to improve and maintain the environment within the churchyard at St. Stephen’s Church, Tockholes. It is a separate entity to the Parochial Church Council, though its committee consists of the parish priest and churchwardens. Our funding comes from donations, bequests, sales of books and social events. In the past three years the Friends have undertaken a huge amount of work in the churchyard, including rebuilding damaged walls, resurfacing the main paths, reinstating the more dangerous headstones and kerbs around the graves and removing overgrown vegetation. Throughout the year routine maintenance, strimming and mowing are also carried out. This work takes up a great deal of time and money and the Friends are looking for help with their work. If you feel that you could help us in any way, whether in undertaking tidying up around the graves and paths or making a financial contribution to fund our work, we would be very grateful.
